Chekhov's Six Principles for a Good Story

Just putting it out here that Chekhov, in a letter to his elder brother that was written sometime in 1886, set forth the six principles for a good story, which are as follows:

1. Absence of lengthy verbiage of a political-social-economic nature
2. Total objectivity
3. Truthful descriptions of persons and objects
4.  Extreme brevity
5. Audacity and originality: flee the stereotype
6. Compassion
